What are Muscle relaxer injections
Muscle Relaxer are a family of products that when injected into the muscle, decrease the movement of that muscle. This mode of action leads to cosmetic and therapeutic results that makes these injections very desirable in aesthetic and therapuetic medicine.
Botox and Dysport are among the most popular muscle relaxer injections.
What is Botox?
Botox (OnabotulinumtoxinA) is the name of the muscle relaxer which contains botulinum toxin. Botox is injected into the muscle in order to temporarily diminish movement and therefore decrease the appearance of facial wrinkles and lines.
WHAT IS Dysport?
Dysport (AbobotulinumtoxinA) is a newer treatment that has the similar indication as Botox. Dysport is another type of muscle relaxer injection used also to temporarily reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles and fine lines.
Rhytids also known as wrinkles, develop overtime due to several factors such as collagen loss due to sun exposure and aging, hormonal changes, cellular changes and excessive muscle movement.
Not many of these contributing factors could be avoided or controlled, but decreasing muscle movement, avoiding sun exposure and applying protective and rejuvenating skincare products, could slow down the skin degeneration and damage overtime.
One of the reasons for manifestation of fine lines and wrinkles is due to repeated muscle activity. Muscle relaxer injections such as Botox/Dysport inhibit nerve signals to muscles, thus temporarily impeding muscle activity in the injected area(s).
Botox/Dysport is injected into muscles to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and lines. The procedure takes only minutes. Botox/Dysport is administered using a fine needle in order to minimize discomfort. Typically, it takes about 1 to 2 weeks to see full results. There is usually no downtime, although small bruises and swelling might happen in rare cases.
